Workshop 1 – Learning Outside the Classroom (LOC)

Our LOC events instill the skills, confidence and content to enable teachers to start utilising their outdoor spaces during lessons or take their current outdoor learning practice to the next level. These innovative and inspiring workshop delivers strategies, ideas and tips to overcome the common barriers to LOC and a whole host of tried and tested tools, resources and lesson plans to make it easy and appealing any time.

Workshop Content

• Ethos and underpinning for teaching and learning in the outdoors – Our why?

• Sharing our stories – what we do and how we do it at our school (scene setting).

• Preparation, planning & resources for successful outdoor learning sessions.

• Practical working – a carousel of resource stations for delegates to move around and try out activities and equipment linking to different parts of the curriculum. Followed by an update, review and capture of the highlights.

• Fresh eyes approach to looking at all of our environments, apparatus, skills and resources for great outdoor learning.

• Keeping it safe – good practice in risk assessment and health and safety

• Overcoming barriers and blocks – the practicalities and limitations.

• Practical working – in small teams, delegates are provided with a host of source material, lesson plans and activities and are tasked with designing and delivering a short outdoor learning session around a key theme.

• Actions to takeaway – the resource, time and people plan to make things happen.

Our events are fully participative, experiential and delivered entirely outdoors. You will come away with practical tips, tools and ideas to give you the confidence to take more of your teaching outside immediately.

Cost:     £745 per full day (+ VAT & Travel)

              £595 per half day or twilight session (+ VAT & Travel)

Note that we can combine both of these themes (Teaching the curriculum and character education) into one whole day of training (half a day on each) if you would like to explore and cover more ground. We can also design and deliver tailored and bespoke training sessions to reflect your own unique setting, culture and where you are currently on your journey to excellence in learning beyond the classroom.
