Workshop 2 – Teaching for Character

These workshops are designed to enable teachers and schools to become independent hubs for teaching a range of skills and character traits such as collaboration, trust, active listening, resilience, critical thinking. Instead of purchasing expensive, externally delivered training in this area, teachers gain knowledge in facilitative techniques, activities and appropriate theory to be able to deliver high quality ‘soft skills’ development directly to pupils within your school. They will become familiar with what an effective session looks like and confident in both the design and delivery of a number of varied activities as well as how to flex them up or down the year groups and differentiate to differing pupil needs and abilities.

Workshop Content

• Underpinning principles and attitudes to support character development in an outdoor setting.

• Why? Creating a good cultural fit for our school.

• Preparation, planning & resources for successful team building sessions.

• Fundamental theories and models for teaching and learning experientially.

• Overcoming barriers and blocks – the practicalities and limitations.

• Practical working – taking part in a range of energisers and longer, more complex problem-solving activities. Followed by an update, review and capture of the highlights.

• Keeping it safe – good practice in risk assessment and health and safety

• Active and impactful reviewing ideas and strategies to review and garner high quality learning transfer.

A varied and thriving Teaching for Character programme should be an integral part of life at all schools. It’s as vital for happy, healthy children as movement, sport and active play!

Our events are fully participative, experiential and delivered entirely outdoors. You will come away with practical tips, tools and ideas to give you the confidence to take more of your teaching outside immediately.

Cost:     £745 per full day (+ VAT & Travel)

               £595 per half day or twilight session (+ VAT & Travel)

Note that we can combine both of these themes (Teaching the curriculum and character education) into one whole day of training (half a day on each) if you would like to explore and cover more ground. We can also design and deliver tailored and bespoke training sessions to reflect your own unique setting, culture and where you are currently on your journey to excellence in learning beyond the classroom.
